Take The Lake 5K

Planning is currently underway for the Take the Lake 5K, a charity run/walk around Wakefield's beautiful Lake Quannapowitt. Since the founding of the race 11 years ago, over 4,000 walkers and runners have participated in the event, raising over $130,000 for cancer related charities. An exclusive and expanded partnership was formed last year between Take The Lake 5K and the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.
Take the Lake was created and is dedicated to Janice (Mignosa) Frye who traced her roots to Wakefield. A Wakefield High School Class of 1980 scholar and thespian, and Lucius Beebe library regular, Janice loved all things literary. She lost her battle with cancer in 1999 and her family created the run/walk to pay tribute to her and the organizations that reach out and help the countless local families afflicted by this insidious disease.
Mignosa explained that organizers chose NECCS as the event beneficiary because “ its unique focus on survivorship and the powerful and positive impact the organization continually delivers to people fighting and living with all types of cancer.”
